How does gamification vastly improve business training and why?

Games have become increasingly popular as young people who have been brought up with them, filter into the marketplace. Gamification in business training is therefore making a significant and unprecedented impact on businesses, financially, on training outcomes and importantly in employee engagement.

‘Gamification is a highly engaging tool, one that enraptures the player and creates an immersive experience. It creates a fun experience, and if designed well, can help drive greater learning and retention. Little wonder that it is trending at the workplace as an add-on to carry out different HR and business interventions. Some companies are adding it to the onboarding process to help new hires gel with each other and the team. Still, others are using it as a trial tool, to help employees try out different organisational goals through a simulated game and see which one they find suitable.’ -Rhucha Kulkarni

Gamification: A Game Changer for HR

Green Hat People’s experience of designing business games have seen a massive upsurge in their use in business training for the very reasons stated above, employee engagement, fun experience, greater learning and retention.

Rhucha goes on to say, ‘Consider the case of Asurion, a Nashville-based technology company. New joiners are put into a closed room and are expected to escape. In the midst of it they are assigned tasks of varying complexity, which they must achieve to be able to escape. These being techies, gaming runs in their blood, and hence creates an instant connect with the company as well as a great collaborative-learning effort. It is a creative way of positively reinforcing desirable behaviors, and driving learning and development as a whole.’

Gamification is no fad, it is a serious learning tool that companies are discovering huge value in. GHP recently launched an ‘escape room’ business game and have seen a significant response when we show it to clients. This thrilling game is immersive and interactive, and adapted around a company’s goals, the return on investment is impressive. Locked in a room with colleagues, participants have 60 minutes to solve challenging puzzles to escape.

Rhucha says, ‘Companies are waking up to the fact the gamification may be the ultimate learning-cum-engagement model they need to embrace. This trend is evident from the growing number of gamification solution providers out there, making the experience real for employers and employees.’

GHP is one of the most experienced providers; business gaming is our business and has been for over a decade. Our escape room game is played in groups of 3-6 participants using tablets and various props, the teams are bombarded with tricky missions of various types, that can be solved sequentially or in parallel. As the teams progress, more levels are opened up with increasing difficulty. The aim is to crack challenges, collect letters and solve the final challenge to escape the room.

It is becoming clear that business games are here to stay and will increasingly play an important role in the training, attracting of, and retention of employees. For a free quote and demonstration of how we can help you with your business training, please get in touch with us.
